The Bookworm – Minnah Hussain

Hey there, Minnah here! a student of English literature, sixth semester, in the University of Peshawar. Wanting to work abroad in a publishing firm someday (a girl can dream). I’m hoping to travel quite a bunch and see new places and experience new cultures in the future.

Why Literature? Hate being asked this question BUT

I’ve always been fascinated by English literature since a young age. May be the effect of growing up in an extremely book-wormish family which instilled a love for reading in me at a very young age. But no kidding! I love how I can just escape to another world while I am reading and the different emotions that I experience while reading (without any of the bagage they might come with).

Let’s do rapid Q&A!

Let’s go.

I eat: Anything but karelay (bitter melon)

I drink: Water mostly, but I’d prefer to drink Milo or milkshakes.

Books / shows: Book – Circe by Madeline Miller. Show – Parks and recreation

Hangout spot on campus: Café all the way.

What did you want to become as a kid?

Gemologist but then dropped the idea when I found out there was way too much Chemistry involved.

What’s the best thing about an English degree? / biggest benefit: Increases your communication skills, critical thinking and reading in-between the lines.

What are 3 skills you learnt in your BS?: Analysing pieces of written works, researching, and lots of patience.

What’s an accomplishment you’re most proud of: I went to Chowa Gujar in 2019 and through the help of my family and friends, arranged a charity program to get shoes and clothes for the children in that town. I managed to get 40 pairs of shoes and a lot of clothes for them.

You joined CLLB during COVID-19. Talk about your experience.

I joined CLLB as an intern in December. A friend sent me an application form and I thought it looked pretty interesting so I signed up for it. I participated in the Photography course and helped out with the Arts course. I’ve had an excellent experience so far and hope to keep on arranging and participating in more courses and events. The people here are super nice as well, I’m glad I get to work in a place where I get along with everyone.
