English Language Centre (ELC)

Mission

Our mission is to develop tomorrow’s global leaders. Our students learn in a supportive environment and enter in their professions as leaders.

The English Language Centre (ELC) at CLLB offers a wide variety of English language courses at different levels from pre-intermediate to advanced. Whether you want to improve your language skills to prepare for university or enhance your career prospects, we will have the right course for you. Studying at CLLB will give you the opportunity to learn English with interactive teaching and learning methodologies. This means you will be able to learn English while practicing your skills as you explore this exciting global city.

English as a Second Language (ESL), also called English as a Foreign Language (EFL), English as an additional language (EAL) or English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), is an English language education study program for non-native speakers.

Learner-centered Classrooms and curriculum:

Most ESL programs have small classes for students to receive individual attention from their language instructors. Students learn English and also participate in cultural and social activities of the institute and the community where they study.

On your first day, ELC will assess your English language skills to ensure that you are placed on the right course for your current level. Our classes are communicative, with a lot of pair work and group
work. This allows you to practice your skills in a relaxed and friendly environment with other students from different parts of the province. You will also have access to regular extra-curricular activities such as our Conversation Club, activities and trips.

Objective

The objective of the ESL program is to improve the level of an English learner. The ESL classes teach different English language skills, according to the English ability of the students, interest, and
needs. All programs teach the following: grammar, reading, comprehension, writing, and vocabulary.

  1. Many students attend ESL classes in order to study at a college/university. In this case, you can choose an intensive program that teaches academic English.
  2. Other ESL students want to improve their English for travel or social purposes. They can study in general English classes to practice speaking English and learn the skills necessary for communication in many different situations.
  3. English business courses (ESP-English for Specific Purposes) are also available for students who want to learn the specific vocabulary and communication skills necessary to engage in business in English.

Why English Language Programs?

English Language Programs can teach you to read, write, understand, and speak English more easily by improving your grammar, vocabulary, and communication skills. However, there are also many other reasons to study in an English Language Centre:

  • They prepare you for academic study in a college, university or professional school.
  • They help you improve the score on the English exams you may need in the future such as the TOEFL, IELTS or the Cambridge Certificate.
  • They respond to your personal interest by learning what interests you, such as business English or conversational English.
  • They teach you the culture of the country first-hand.
They immerse you in a new language and culture, providing you with many opportunities to practice English at school and in the local community.
  • They help you find many new and different people, in and out of school.
  • They often provide accommodation, cultural and social activities, and other student services to make their trips easier and more satisfying.

Studying at ELC programs should not only be the realization of a
goal but also an important step to achieving future objectives.
