Forensic Law

A cross-disciplinary course for Medical and Law Students

Course Description

Forensic Law

Forensic medicine plays a significant role in the criminal justice system globally. However, in Pakistan, it has not been employed effectively in criminal cases. Medicine students are not taught the legal aspects of criminal cases whereas lawyers are not exposed to forensic medicine due to which justice can be delayed. With greater knowledge of the legal aspects of a criminal case doctors can help courts arrive at fair verdicts while lawyers can help citizens seek justice if they are educated about the latest techniques in forensic medicine.

The forensic law course will introduce medico-legal issues to lawyers and doctors with a focus on forensic medicine. In this cross-disciplinary course, law and medicine students will learn and explore forensic law concepts alongside each other which will help them deal with medico- legal problems in an effective way. The course will cover areas such as:

  • The importance of forensic medicine in criminal cases
  • The need for lawyers to understand the forensic components in criminal cases
  • The need for doctors to learn about the possible challenges that they can face in a forensic medicine case
