LLB
How challenging is the degree?
The key to success in this degree is the ability to comprehend, coupled with sheer reading ability. The legal profession requires you to be able to read lengthy judgements and commentaries, with the ability to understand different legal propositions. This degree is indeed challenging as it requires you to display these qualities.
Is the University of London degree recognized in Pakistan?
It is recognized. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognizes all University of London degrees. Moreover, all the provincial bar councils and Pakistan Bar Councils also recognizes them for licensing purposes.
After changes made to the local LLB programmes by extending the duration to 5 years, is the three years LLB programme of the University of London (UOL) still recognized in Pakistan?
Yes, the three years UOL degree/ or it’s two years graduate route LLB is still recognized. The five years LLB change only applies to Pakistani law degrees.
Does the Bar Council recognize this degree for license to practice purposes?
Yes, all the Provincial Bar Councils and Pakistan Bar Council recognize the UOL degree for licensing purposes.
I’m an FSc graduate. Can I apply for a law programme?
Yes, you certainly can. There is no bar on an FSc student applying for this course. Although, the entrance requirements must be met.
If I’m studying with any other centre, can I migrate? And does CLLB offer admissions in 2nd and 3rd Year LLB?
Yes, you can. Once you register for the programme, it is your registration with UOL and not the centre that is providing you teaching facilities. As to whether CLLB offers admissions into 2nd and 3rd year, the answer is yes. Our faculty and campus is well equipped for all three years of LLB students
If I study UK law, will it help me in practising law in Pakistan?
Pakistan is a common law jurisdiction which means that its laws take after the Laws of England. So yes, it immensely helps broaden your legal thinking which puts you at a great advantage when you practice here.
I’m a graduate in a discipline other than law. How long would the LLB course be for me?
If you are a graduate with a bachelors degree, then you don’t need to go through the three year standard entry route and are eligible for a quicker two year course through the graduate entry route, subject to the University of London accepting your bachelors degree.
LLM
After having completed sixteen modules, will one be required to write up and submit a dissertation or not?
The UoL LLM programme comprises only 16 modules and there is no dissertation. For all modules under this programme, assessment is conducted through 45-minute examinations.
What is the minimum number of exams one can attempt in a particular academic year?
In an academic year, there are 2 examination sessions; May and October. If you decide to enter examinations at the first available examination session after registration, you are permitted to attempt a minimum of one module and a maximum of nine modules, and at all subsequent examination sessions, a maximum of 16 modules may be attempted. If you decide not to enter examinations at the first available examination session after registration, you are permitted to attempt a minimum of one module and a maximum of 16 modules at all subsequent examination sessions.
Having registered with UoL as an LLM student, will one have online access to past papers?
Once you register with the University of London, you will have access to your own online portal, which will give you further access to past papers, study material including texts from various sources, lectures and recent developments (if that course has any) and online libraries.
If I’m an LLB graduate from a Pakistani university, am I eligible to enrol for UOL LLM?
Yes, you are eligible to enrol but subject to approval of your degree by the University of London.
How long is the LLM Programme?
1-5 years.
Can I opt for a general LLM?
Yes, here at CLLB we give you the option to opt for either a general LLM or for a specialization in Public International Law.
General inquiries
How can I apply for the programme of my choice?
Download the relevant form from the website, fill the form out completely, attach the required documents mentioned in the form, and submit them to CLLB. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. CLLB will then process your application. Alternatively, you can also fill the form online on our website.
What is the best time to apply?
Classes at CLLB will commence around mid-September. It is strongly advised that you complete your admission process no later than the first week of August. This also helps you receive your study material from UOL right before classes start.
What is the deadline for applying to a programme?
The deadlines for application and registration for each programme are extensively provided in the prospectus that you can download from our website.
Is this degree expensive?
Going for the same course in London is going to cost you more. By doing it here at CLLB, we save you at least 50% of your bachelors degree cost which you would have paid if you were to travel to London to do it.
If I ask you to submit my application to UOL today, how long will they take to decide whether to accept or reject my application?
They can take from two to four weeks, depending upon the application, and subject to the provision of complete and accurate information.
How much do I initially need to pay?
In the admission process, you only need to pay the UOL’s application handling fee and CLLB’s admission fee. In case your application is not successful, we will refund our admission fee. UOL’s application handling fee (£ 101) is non-refundable.
Can I apply for and get a job with this degree?
Yes, this degree is not only accepted by the top firms in Pakistan, but by top multinationals as well.
Is there a way students can remain in contact with the University of London?
Upon registration, the University of London provides each student with an online portal. Through this portal, you can be in direct contact with UOL and you can easily have access to all resources, including online libraries, that you would need for your studies.
Can I participate in the convocation at UOL after graduation?
Upon graduation, the University of London will contact you and provide you with the opportunity to attend the University of London Graduation Ceremony and tour the Senate House. Although, the graduate will have to incur all the expenses, including travel and stay.
Bar Transfer Course
Due to Covid-19 situation, how will I be assessed if exams in London can’t take place?
The Bar Standards Board of England and Wales has recently announced that the upcoming august sitting exams can be sat remotely through online examination. Thus, due to the pandemic if the exams can’t take place in London then it is highly likely that the March sitting in 2021 is also going to be conducted remotely through online examination. However, you’ll still have to travel to UK for attending dinners at your respective Inn once the situation permits. After passing the exam, you will have two-years timeline to complete your dinners.
How long is the Bar Transfer Course (BTC)?
Six months.
Is the BSB processing new applications for transferring qualified foreign lawyers? And if my application is successful, can I sit the August online exam?
Please note however, that under the current circumstances there will be no new registrations permitted for the Bar Transfer Test in August 2020. This sitting will be reserved for those candidates who were unable to attend the previous sitting in April 2020, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
There will be an additional sitting of the Bar Transfer Test available in December 2020, and this will be open to all candidates. Hence, you will be able to appear in December 2020.
